About the Course

Save Your Dolllars, Skip "September Dawn!"

Christopher Cain is the writer, director, and producer of a film which is engulfed in a dark cloud of untruth and hateful twists of historical fact. He should not be rewarded by honest people watching his movie or giving him their honestly-earned dollars.

What Christopher Cain deserves is thorough journalistic investigation and exposure by reporters of integrity such as Rebecca Rosen-Lum who writes for the Bay Area News.

Certainly the Mountain Meadows Massacre was a despicable event (which strangely took place on an inauspicious day ... 9/11). Interesting, yes. Every possible aspect of this event has been investigated for many, many years by pro- and anti- Mormon historians. An honest movie based on valid historical facts and free of bias and hatred might be worth watching.

"September Dawn" is no such movie. Even the advertisements for the movie scream of Cain's agenda to stir hatred and judgment of Mormons.

The Mormon church has worked for 150 years to make atonement for the panic-driven actions of a handful of church members in 1857. But this film ignores the church's Christian call for forgiveness and instead asks us specifically not to forgive, but to create new grievances, to burn anew with Mormon-hatred based not on fact, but on Cain's conspiracy theory version. There is no honesty in Cain's work.

But why would a movie producer sell his soul like this? It is doubtful Cain is a genetic Mormon hater. His film is more sinister than mere hatred or vengeance would require.

Did Cain purposely choose a subject which would ignite a controversy so everyone would want to see his film, so he would become filthy rich? It works for Michael Moore. But it serves neither liberals nor conservatives to support filth.

Which brings us to wondering if Cain was encouraged regarding this film by the Democratic National Committee or by Hillary Clinton, who years ago took note of a rising young Republican star named Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney is a faithful practicing Christian of the Mormon brand, and all who take time to get to know him come to love him deeply. Romney's all-encompassing spirituality is perceived as very dangerous by Democrats. Wouldn't it be sweet to damage Romney's political career with a campaign against his religion?

Whatever Cain's depraved motives, there is a story here. Let us hope that journalists like Rebecca Rosen-Lum are able to dig, and not quit digging, until they find the truth about Cain. In the meantime, let's save our money.

While saving your money, pray that Christopher Cain opens his heart and comes to understand the teaching of forgiveness given by Jesus Christ for the 21st Century in A Course in Miracles:

What could you want forgiveness cannot give? Do you want peace? Forgiveness offers it. Do you want happiness, a quiet mind, a certainty of purpose, and a sense of worth and beauty that transcends the world? Do you want care and safety, and the warmth of sure protection always? Do you want a quietness that cannot be disturbed, a gentleness that never can be hurt, a deep, abiding comfort, and a rest so perfect it can never be upset?

What would you want forgiveness cannot give? What gifts but these are worthy to be sought? What fancied value, trivial effect, or transient promise never to be kept, can hold more hope than what forgiveness brings? Why would you seek an answer other than the answer that will answer everything? Here is the perfect answer, given to imperfect questions, meaningless requests, half-hearted willingness to hear, and less than halfway diligence and partial trust.

Open your eyes today, and look upon a happy world of safety and of peace. Forgiveness is the means by which it comes to take the place of hell. In quietness it rises up to greet your open eyes, and fill your heart with deep tranquility as ancient truths, forever newly born, arise in your awareness. What you will remember then can never be described. Yet your forgiveness offers it to you.
