McCain and Huckabee: Heroism Lost and Heroism Not Yet

"Your self-deceptions cannot take the place of truth. No more than can a child who throws a stick into the ocean change the coming and the going of the tides, the warming of the water by the sun, the silver of the moon on it by night." -Jesus Christ

The liberal-left news media has been wetting their pants with joy over McCain's New Hampshire Primary victory: all of 7 delegates who don't want to call themselves Republicans, preferring the label "Independents," to attend a convention that doesn't want them. (Romney won 4 delegates from real Republicans.) Clearly the resulting media hype for McCain has nothing to do with reality and everything to do with self-deception.

In New Hampshire during the last days before primary voting, huge gatherings of Independents argued amongst themselves as to whether it was more appropriate to strategically vote for Barack Obama or John McCain. Their purpose was to be spoilers. If they need to have that kind of discussion, why are they even allowed to vote in a so-called "Republican" primary anyway? What idiot ever decided to push for Independents to vote in a Republican Primary? Why doesn't the New Hampshire Republican Party return to common sense and let only Republicans vote in their primary?

It is said that New Hampshire has a huge population of crusty, cranky old-timers. So we can understand how a flip-flopping old-foggy who wouldn't be able to stay awake in the White House might get their vote in a New Hampshire Primary election. But the energetic, forward-looking young independents of New Hampshire only voted for McCain because polls showed Obama far ahead.

John McCain should not be running for President. He claims to be honest while suffering from the deepest self-deception. His so-called "straight talk" is full of twists and flips and avoidances. He accused Romney of running negative ads while he himself was airing the most revoltingly negative ads the campaign has seen so far. In his old age delusion, he imagines he has some kind of Republican record and real Republicans might select him at their convention.

In Iowa and New Hampshire it seemed Ed Rollins was secretly directing both Huckabee's campaign and John McCain's campaign to kill off the truly conservative Mitt Romney. If Huckabee and McCain get away with it, Republicans deserve the oblivion they bring upon themselves.

In his revelation for the 21st Century, A Course in Miracles, Jesus Christ speaks of the unhealed healer:

The extent of the teacher of God's faithfulness is the measure of his advancement in the curriculum. Does he still select some aspects of his life to bring to his learning, while keeping others apart? If so, his advancement is limited, and his trust not yet firmly established. Faithfulness is the teacher of God's trust in the Word of God to set all things right; not some, but all. Generally, his faithfulness begins by resting on just some problems, remaining carefully limited for a time. To give up all problems to one Answer is to reverse the thinking of the world entirely. And that alone is faithfulness. Nothing but that really deserves the name. Yet each degree, however small, is worth achieving. Readiness, as the text notes, is not mastery.
